We are pleased to present for Summer 2010 a new limited edition of the revolutionary and extraordinary Visconti Homo Sapiens fountain pen. Claudio Mazzi once again utilizes his mastery and artistry of the airbrush, applying delicate strokes of paint to basaltic lava. Each LE pen features an individually hand painted reproduction of the Etna volcano using the airbrush technique. Production is limited to 388 fountain pens worldwide. Claudio Mazzi started airbrush painting in 1985. He paints objects for private collectors and large companies in various industries. Mazzi is also known for his various illustrations produced for Maserati (calendars and posters), Ducati Motors (for many years he was the official painter), Colnago / Ferrari bicycle, Malaguti scooters (a collection of 5000 pieces) and Citroen Italia (some cars). Among his favorite works are paintings on precious knives and Visconti's pens that have garnered him awards and the interest of press and television. We should not omit the important personalities that have used objects painted by Mazzi such as several Arab Sheiks, the President of Guatemala, motorcyle riders like Troy Corser, Carl Fogarty and Loris Capirossi. Among the most prestigious and recent commissions include Visconti pens for the Prince of Wales, Prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, the Bahrain Royal Family, Saudi King and Saudi Prince. Airbrush is the name of the instrument which Claudio Mazzi uses to paint Visconti pens. It is a small spray gun, which seems more like a pen than like a traditional paintbrush. This instrument has a magic quality: it draws and paints without directly touching the surface of the object. The result is vibrant and refined. Its typical characteristics are the three-dimensional illusion and the glossy softness of the subjects. The airbrush requires compressed air, which is channeled into the body of the airbrush and takes the varnish from the opposite tank up, pushing it through the nozzle of the tip which atomizes it in small particles. The art form employed by Claudio Mazzi on Visconti pens can be classified as "custom painting." Custom painting - together with illustration and photo finishing - is one of the main applications of airbrush. It is part of the process of personalization of any kind of object through painting. In order to create custom works any painting technique can be used. Indeed airbrush is the better mean, as its typical soft shades and the lack of varnish thick fractions make the image become part of the object itself.
