"Freeze Resistant Inks" include Polar Blue and Polar Black, which will resist forming a solid mass of ice within a glass ink bottle during most cold weather conditions (though they will form some harmless ice "slush" when very cold). The first "Polar" ink was "freeze proof" to -114 F, but the reformulated Polar inks made from 2006 and later have a faster dry time, better flow rate, and are basic "freeze resisting" inks to avoid expansion barrel cracks in pens and broken bottles in mail boxes on cold days. They is no guarantee "never to freeze regardless of the temperature" but, they are made to resist the damaging expansion that water based products can be subject to when exposed to freezing temperatures and harsh winter weather.

The name conjures up images of royal purple and the artwork is indeed very much related to the royals of France. Alas, the evolution of this ink and this label incorporated the input of more than 1,000 Noodler's Ink aficionados and references to vintage inks spanning nearly 100 years. It was proposed with grace and compelling evidence of its need by an intense fan of this sector of the light spectrum - only wished for in extremely permanent form. The name evolved from that of a musician...to that of a song...to a concept...and finally was distilled to a version of "the purple queen"...."La Reine Mauve". Bulletproof? Yes - though marked "Guillotine Proof" in fine print upon the label in tune with its monarchical theme...as well as being water based, pH neutral, UV light proof (though can be eventually burned up with an intense heat lamp and a laser - yet obvious damage to the paper will also result from this! - It resists the sun and rain until the paper disintegrates...provided one permitted it to penetrate the cellulose structure of the paper and dry.) - and it is extremely smooth....one of the few inks to rival the smoothness of Noodler's Black (this assumes a well adjusted pen - as no ink alone can make a scratchy misaligned pen smooth, yet some inks can make a well aligned/adjusted pen glide as if a bead of mercury riding over a sheet of glass).

After receiving feedback from customers, Polar Brown has been made a more conventional color - though still a completely bulletproof, freeze resisting, lubricated ink - it is now a striking dark brown ink. It remains extremely durable, but now has the more conservative color most of our customers requested that it become. The older version bi-gravity Polar Brown with the "orange halo flames" is being phased out (both due to customer feedback as well as a pending material shortage). Apologies in advance for any inconvenience this might cause - but we feel strongly the new color will more closely serve the desires and wants of our customers and will be a longer term offering in terms of more consistent availability and color.

At the request of many customers Noodler's Ink set about to make available a bulletproof green freeze resisting ink - Polar Green - at the same cost as the other extremely durable Polar Inks offered by Noodler's. It is modeled upon the darker/forest shades of green suggested by those same customers in late 2009. It has been tested in the recent arctic blasts to hit New England and found to be equal in performance to our other Polar Inks in hindering the problems cold weather can cause with pens such as ball points and roller balls - with a pen that is set for classic flow (when one can see light pass through the nib tines) a Polar Ink can write, well below freezing...and the glass bottle can be encased in ice (as shown in some of our demonstrations) without the glass being destroyed through expansion of the liquid! This has been a useful feature for many people in the northern part of the USA when the ink sits out in a mail box for a long period of time waiting for their return home from work

In the classic American country landscape, when one is really bad one soon finds themselves on a chain gang. Blue Herons sometimes eat catfish alive (as has been witnessed first hand), snapping turtles tear catfish apart, and alligators snap them down without a thought. Such treatment of the Noodlers Ink mascot is reprehensible behavior and thus these regrettable characters make up the new Wardens Ink Series. It is the first fountain pen ink of its kind and is our attempt at defeating certain new tools of the modern forger. The new devices and their technological application have been made known to us by Nicholas A. Masluk, a gentleman genius from Yale University (with a father who was in the Secret Service no less!)- such devices and techniques are near perfection in their ability to defeat the strongest roller ball inks on the planet. We consider those rollerball inks our competition in the struggle to make the fountain pen not only more viable and utilitarian than the rollerball and gel-pen.but far more versatile, durable, and above all when one bothers to do the math.the most practical of all writing instruments on a cost basis alone (which these Goliath like corporate giant competitors facilitate tremendously as they are disposable, single fill units that waste 100% once the ink runs out!). This is the first in the series of what we hope will evolve and develop into a type of ink that defeats two powerful spectrums of energy used by forgers (we do not list how this is done at the suggestion of a friend in law enforcement no need to make things easier for the forgers). This series aims to hinder this new threat to the longevity of the written word while combining all the durability of our bulletproof designation against the forces of UV light, industrial solvents, detergents, etc.but includes additional features made to foil the future possibility that forgers might discover certain additional new technologies and use them to ill ends. To defeat new forms of forgery using modern technology and advanced forms of document alteration has required great efforts on the part of the company to research and develop the means to prevent such abuse of documents as much as is technologically possible. The label artwork has three live models catfish from the Senators home town that have a thing or two to say about this revival of a competitive democratic process. The Senators name is, after all irresistible to a fellow who makes ink! The color is an extremely dark and deep sepia brown with a hint of golden sunset shading when used with italic nibs. It is NOT a Wardens ink though it IS archival/bulletproof/eternal /pH neutral (it has not yet been tested for laser alteration though a similar ink did pass that test). In the spirit of the democratic process the costs are kept to the razors edge so that the most people possible can see it as an extremely competitive price when taking into account its properties and durability.

A few weeks ago we obtained some dated, sealed, and viable vintage area inks with extremely patriotic labels (this, to us is a rare opportunity to examine earlier industrial history first hand!). Many referenced V-mail, a term that seems to have begun in WW I. These were dated from 1939 to 1945 and of course began in earnest after Dec. 7th, 1941 with the patriotic WW II themes. With those inks as models and a little bit of reverse engineering and close modern replication the originals come alive again in our own V-mail ink series:

This ink exhibits a rose halo on certain papers on both sides of the line, as well as exhibiting darker shading on the edges of lines where the tine of the nib touches the page or a side of an italic nib lays a firmer line. It is approximately 16% bulletproof and is made up of dyes with multiple properties in order to generate the various shading and different tones under various light sources (it will look different in daylight versus fluorescent lighting for example). It functions as a conventional fountain pen ink and thus writes in just about every pen one can think of
.including the Noodlers piston filled ink ball pens. The ink inhabits a neutral pH range about 7, though in time it might migrate to 7.5 or 6.5 (that wont be known until after the passage of time). With certain pens it will appear to be a very conservative dark burgundy plum, whereas it will be a light cherry tone with drier writing pens and a paper towel test will always show the black swan hiding in the roses.
