Precious artwork in Spanish style

The art of working with Damascus steel goes back thousands of years. It means that steel or iron objects are decorated by engraving a pattern into the surface. Next, a thin sheet of gold will be placed over the pattern and will be embossed deep into the material with the help of a little hammer. In order to show the newly filled pattern, the object will then be heated to approximately 800°C. By doing so, the steel surfaces will oxidize and turn black, while the gold starts to shine. This technique traveled with the Arabs into Spain and has been perfected throughout the centuries, particularly in the famous Spanish town Toledo.
In the year 1931 Pelikan adopted this technique for the Toledo model with so much success that the design has remained virtually unchanged throughout the years. Today the decorative sleeve is made of one piece in Sterling Silver. It is treated carefully in various different steps until the motive is covered with a layer of gold (or palladium to obtain a silver surface). Every Toledo fountain pen is a unique piece made in Germany. This is because the tiny engravings in the motif are made by hand, making each Pelikan feather come alive. Due to the high amount of work, a maximum of 200 pieces are able to be created per month. The cap and front piece as well as the end piece are made of black high-quality resin.

The barrel with the deceptively simple anthracite stripes is made of cellulose acetate, using a traditional process that's extremely work-intensive. For the black, finely turned pieces, high-quality resin was used. The clip and the rings are plated with palladium. The nib is made of 18 carat gold and then completely rhodinized to obtain a silver sheen. Every single writing instrument is mounted by hand and carefully checked to fulfill the strictest quality criteria.

M101N Grey-Blue Pelikan is adding another model to the successful historical M101N series, the M101N Grey-Blue.

The technical base of this fountain pen is the model M101N. The chosen color pattern in grey and blue reminds of a historical model of the 1930s. The barrel is made of the typical Pelikan cellulose acetate in a very unique pattern. Cap, front part and turning knob are made of high-quality resin that polishes itself time and again during use.
The typical Pelikan beak clip and the decorative rings are plated with palladium. Together with the fully rhodanized 14 carat gold nib it gives this special edition an elegant silvery appearance.

Souverän - A world-famous classic. The production of the tortoise shell is subject to an elaborate process, because according to a recipe specially developed for Pelikan, a striped piece of material is made from cotton material in many steps, which is bent and then polished to contour with a diamond. The special feature of the tortoiseshell material is its slight material transparency and the different color nuances that give the material its shimmering effect. The palladium-plated rings on the filler grip and cap are fitted with the utmost precision before the writing instrument is polished to a high gloss. The slightly springy, typical Pelikan beak clip gives this high-quality writing instrument its unmistakable design.

The art of damascening is handcrafted at the highest level and is thousands of years old. With the "Toledo" fountain pen, Pelikan pays tribute to this technique with a love of detail.
The biggest highlight of this edition is the decorative sleeve. Several elaborate steps are necessary to refine the detailed pelican motif on the barrel. The special pelican motif is refined by hand by a goldsmith with many expressive details, so that the very individual expression gives the writing instrument its vibrancy. Two pelican motifs can be seen on the surrounding 925 sterling silver sleeve: A small pelican stands together in front of a pelican with widened wings and the second motif shows a pelican with an open beak. Both motifs are framed by ornaments. During the manufacturing process, the design is etched onto the sleeve and then the filigree details are stitched by hand. Finally, the surface of the barrel is coated with palladium.
The fountain pen is fitted with a 18-carat/750 rhodinized gold nib. The Toledo M910 White is available only for a limited time and comes in a high-quality, white piano lacquered Toledo gift box.
